Health and social care course....vocational or a level?

hi i was just wondering if anyone knows which would be better. I would like to be either a childrens social worker or nurse. So would it be better for me to do a 2 yr vocational course in health and social care or if i did it at Alevel would it not be enough..as in not cover enough as it would if i just studying the course by itself? appreciate any help
