How safe is UCLA and the area it is in? What dangers/crime to expect?

This is my first time moving to LA. I have been living in Irvine practically my whole life. Do you hear gunshots everyday in westwood? Is street driving horrible? Do muggers or "bad" people come up to you and knock at your window when you stop at a red light? Thanks.
