It could be implantation bleeding. Try testing again in a few days. I had similar experience, except my period is due in 2 days. Monday, I had mild cramps, and a little blood, which is normal for me a few days before my period starts. I didn't start Tuesday, when I expected. Tuesday night I took a pregnancy test, and it came out positive. I have to get it checked of course. But I've read that it can take anywhere from 8-14 days for implantation to occur, and that is when the hormone that hpt detect starts to show up, so maybe yours just hasn't started producing the hormone yet.
